About

Bob Cargill, who was named the "Direct Marketer of the Year" for 2009 by the New England Direct Marketing Association, is recognized as much for his expertise as a direct marketing practitioner as his evangelism on behalf of blogs and other social media tools. He has a proven track record of helping to develop successful marketing communications campaigns through seamlessly coordinated creative team efforts. But he also enjoys his role as an industry “commentator,” writing and speaking about advertising, direct marketing, social media and Web 2.0 trends, developments, topics and issues.

Bob’s blog, A New Marketing Commentator (which he wrote from February 17, 2004 to May 10, 2006 -- and which he has recently "re-launched"), was the first blog ever to be honored with an award — a Gold — from the New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) at its 25th Annual Awards for Creative Excellence on April 6, 2006.

With over 20 years of experience as a marketing professional, Bob has received more than 40 awards for his work, including Best of Show and a Silver award for Best Copywriting from the New England Direct Marketing Association, plus the Axel Andersson Award for direct mail excellence from the publication, Inside Direct Mail.

Bob has spoken many times at schools and industry events on direct marketing, copywriting, blogging and more. He has been quoted or published concerning his areas of expertise in The New York Times, DIRECT Magazine, The ClickZ Network, The DMA Bottom Line, The Boston Business Journal, The Providence Journal, the MetroWest Daily News, The Sudbury Town Crier, DM NEWS and NEDMA NEWS.

Bob is a Past President of the New England Direct Marketing Association (’99–’00), a Past President of two Toastmasters clubs and a graduate of the MetroWest Leadership Academy. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a Master of Science degree from Brooklyn College in New York. He has run 12 marathons (six for charity) and several hundred road races, including the Mount Washington Road Race, a seven-mile run up the tallest peak in New England, three times. Bob resides with his wife and children in Sudbury, MA.
